Souter Point joins the Biometrics Institute

Souter Point is pleased to announce that we have joined the Biometrics Institute, whose mission is to "promote the responsible, ethical and effective use of Biometrics and related technologies that respect the Institute’s ethical guidance as an independent and impartial international forum for biometric users and other interested parties."

Biometrics are playing a bigger and bigger role in our daily lives, whether that’s unlocking a phone or computer, setting up a bank account online, or travelling to a different country.

While biometrics have the potential to significantly streamline processes and enhance security, when done poorly, their application can pose challenges that lead to customer frustration, data processing issues, and integrity concerns. Getting the balance right is a conversation we want to be part of, and the forum offered by the Biometrics Institute to promote the responsible use of biometrics is an excellent opportunity to make our voice heard and support the development of biometrics best practice.

Souter Point has experience in designing, mobilising and operating large-scale biometric services spanning dozens of countries, including operator-led and self-service enrolment processes. Projects include civil biometric enrolment for government visa applications, including those for the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Denmark, as well as research reports on the latest developments in biometric enrolment technologies being pioneered for digital travel credentials.

Managing Director of Souter Point, Gareth Richards, will be attending the Biometrics Institute ID@Borders and the Future of Travel event in Brussels, Belgium, from 23-24 April 2026, and he welcomes the opportunity to deepen discussions on the latest biometric developments and meet like-minded people.
